About

Casa de Kathy was established in 2003 by Kathy Gannett.  Kathy first travelled from her hometown Boston to Vieques in 1986 and 1993 to learn about the movement to stop the military practices in Vieques.  Kathy returned to Vieques in 2000 to participate in the peaceful civil disobedience to stop the US Navy bombing practice in Vieques.

Along with hundreds of other protesters, she served a 20-day sentence in a federal prison in Puerto Rico for trespassing on federal lands (camping in the bombing range).

After 4 months of working in the Vieques peace movement in 2000, she decided to make her home there.

Over 2000 protesters were arrested between 1999 and 2003 before the Navy base was finally shut down.

For two decades Kathy has been involved in peace and social justice issues in Vieques.  Her community website is www.justiceforvieques.org.

She lives on the second floor of Casa de Kathy with her cat, Tangi. You are invited to enjoy her large balcony with a panoramic view of the south coast.

Kathy will give you a custom orientation about Vieques when you arrive. Select “Vieques” in the menu to learn about Vieques now.

Contact Kathy by writing to [email protected] or calling 787-565-2717 before 8 PM.

All your questions about how to reserve and how to get to Vieques are welcome.
